‘Child Sexual Abuse’ and ‘POSCO Act’
|
Ms. Nayantara Vohra from Sahayam Charitable Trust conducted a workshop at Tarang Centre, Pahadi Sambhav Colony. The workshop was attended by 30 community women specially those mothers whose children are up to 13 years old.
Encourages parents to have a conversation with their children about their private parts, protecting their body, actions they can take if they receive an unsafe touch, and whom they can tell, identifying two or three trusted adults that they can turn to if they are upset. Finally, parents are encouraged to reinforce with their children that it is never their fault if they receive an unsafe touch; the blame always rests with the adult. Parents need to instill confidence that if something does happen to their child, the parents will be understanding and supportive. It is time for our discussions to move beyond safe and unsafe touch and it is time for us, the people, to make their contribution towards prevention, social and legal awareness, psychological impact and treatment options related to child sexual abuse. The workshop was very well received by the women. It was extremely informative, and the whole-hearted participation of the women illustrated how important the topic was for them. In fact, they were keen that one more workshop should be conducted and this time it should be with children, in order to make them aware of sexual abuse. |
Cervical Cancer Awareness and HPV Vaccination
|
An Awareness session conducted by Dr. Kusum Chopra at Tarang Centre on August 29, 2019. The workshop was attended by more than 50 community women. Cervical carcinoma is one of the most common and dreaded diseases of women. The situation is more alarming in the rural areas where the majority of women are illiterate and ignorant about the hazards of cervical cancer.
Our Community women already aware regarding the same as we had a PAP Smear Camp in previous year. This year we have given the information more on its prevention at early age through HPV Vaccine. The HPV Vaccine protects against the types of HPV that most often cause cervical, vaginal, and vulvar cancers. The HPV vaccine is recommended for boys and girls who are 11 to 12 years old, but can be given as early as age 9 and until age 20. Dr. Kusum Chopra explained it very well. This year we want to get vaccine for 40 girls in the age group of 9 to 20 years old. |
