The Vaish Associates Public Welfare Trust, founded in 1985 by Senior Advocate Mr. O.P. Vaish, seeks primarily to empower the under-privileged through social outreach programs in diverse fields such as education, health, nutrition and women empowerment. Under the aegis of managing trustee Mrs. Manju Vaish the trust continues to pursue it's mission and work.
Children in the age group 0-6 years, notably the most vulnerable age group, are the primary focus, while adolescents and women especially pregnant and lactating mothers are given equal priority in terms of nutrition and health care, through its programmes in two slums located at Mehrauli, Delhi. Enriching civil society through social awareness and promoting art and culture are some of the extended activities of the Trust.
Health and Nutrition: Promoting nutrition and health of children, adolescents and women is a primary focus. Immunization drives and Medical check –ups by a qualified doctor are a regular feature, while special meetings for pregnant and lactating mothers and Health awareness camps (family planning/anemia/eye/dental camps) for the community at large are held periodically. Supplementary
nutrition in the form of a hot cooked meal and a dry snack is provided to children attending the balwadis and a special mixture of ‘paushtik daliya’ is given to pregnant and lactating mothers. Malnourished children are put on a special diet and closely monitored. Strongly believing in sustainable interventions, the Trust has started providing training programmes to adolescent girls on health issues (mainly Reproductive and Child Health).
Women and Youth Empowerment: Workshops are held periodically to raise their awareness on critical issues affecting their environment and their personal development. Eg. Hygiene, sanitation, self-defence classes. Women are being given skill- development training in sewing and garment making.
The Trust organises a Blood Donation camp each year. Also, as envisioned by the founder of the Trust, Mr. O.P. Vaish, the Trust seeks to build an 'Attitude of Gratitude' among citizens by recognising the exemplary works for humanity undertaken by individuals and institutions, through periodic community thanksgiving programmes.
